The Royal Hibernian Academy is an artist based and artist orientated institution dedicated to developing, affirming and challenging the public's appreciation and understanding of traditional and innovative approaches to
the visual arts. The Academy achieves its objectives through its exhibition, education and collection programmes.

The Academy is funded by the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon, through fundraising initiatives, through the earned revenue from its Annual Exhibition and by the Benefactors, Patrons and Friends of the Academy.

Located in central Dublin, one minute from St. Stephen's Green, the Academy has four galleries and is a purpose built exhibition space . Three galleries on the first floor are dedicated to curated exhibitions of Irish and
international art: The main gallery is 6000 sq.ft with 17ft. ceilings and louvred daylight. Galleries II and III are 1500sq.ft each.

The Ashford Gallery is situated on the ground floor, it is 1100 sq.ft. This gallery is a service to artists who do not have commercial representation in Dublin and is designed to introduce artists to the collecting public.

The Academy's exhibition programme is varied and embraces all media including painting, video art, sculpture, drawing . Past video and photographic artists exhibited at the gallery include international artists Bill Viola, William Kentridge, Bruce Nauman, Siobhan Hapaska, Richard Misrach, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Anthony Goicolea, Janine Gordon, Paul M Smith, Justine Kurland, Elger Esser, Tacita Dean, Wolfgang Tillmans and Irish artists Abigail O'Brien, Grace Weir, Clare Langan, Mary Kelly and Dorothy Cross.
